Tools for following the region

ijra is a live map of the news from the Middle East, Sudan and Pakistan. Every story is placed where it happened, verified automatically, written in Arabic and English, and linked to its sources.

How a story reaches the map

Every step is automatic and runs every few minutes, around the clock.

  1. 1

    Read

More than 180 news sources in six languages: websites, news sitemaps and public Telegram channels.

  2. 2

    Place

Where it happened, not where it was written: a city, an area, or the country when nothing more precise is reported.

  3. 3

    Group

Reports of the same event become one story: close in time, nearby, and about the same thing.

  4. 4

    Write

The headline in Arabic and English, a two or three sentence summary in our own words, and a neutral background note.

  5. 5

    Verify

Scored again from all its sources every time a new one reports it.

A live map of the region

Every story appears where it happened as soon as it is reported, across 18 countries from Türkiye to Sudan and Pakistan.

  • Stories at the same place stack by category, with how many there are.
  • A dashed ring means the story is placed at country level: no more precise place was reported.
  • New stories pulse as they arrive; nothing needs reloading.

Automatic verification

Each story carries a level and a score from 0 to 100. It is worked out again every time a new source reports the story, and nobody sets it by hand.

  • Independent sources: outlets with one owner, and copies of the same text, count once.
  • Spread: how many perspectives reported it. A wire agency adds weight; headlines that only attribute the news to someone (“X says…”) take it away.
  • Claim: one source so far. Developing: two or more independent sources. Confirmed: a score of 60 or more, with sources across perspectives or a wire agency.

Severity, next to verification

Each story also says how big it is, from minor to critical, with a one-line reason. It is a fixed formula of what the reports state, the same for every story, and it never changes how verified a story is.

  • What counts: deaths and injuries in this incident (never a war's running toll), what was hit (energy sites, airports, ports, border crossings, infrastructure, military sites, a capital) and how widespread it is.
  • Escalation: when strikes and clashes in a country over the last day are at least ten and double its daily average of the past week, its strikes and clashes count one level higher.
  • With Pro, filter the map by severity, and get an alert when a story reaches the levels you choose, even if it started smaller.

Coverage by perspective

A bar on every story shows who covered it, and how much: each country of the region, Iran-aligned and Brotherhood outlets, Western media and international agencies.

  • Every publisher has a profile: its perspective, its owner and its reliability.
  • When 80% or more of the coverage comes from one perspective, the story is marked: other sides may be missing.

Blindspot

Almost all coverage comes from one perspective (Iran), so other sides of the story may be missing.

Sources and context

Every story links to its original articles. We show the headline, a short summary in our own words and the link, never the article itself.

  • One entry per publisher, with its other language editions.
  • Sites that ran the same copy fold under the first one.
  • A neutral background note, marked as written automatically.
