Mines, disguised bombs threaten civilians fleeing Yemen’s front lines, says HALO

The HALO Trust said explosive devices hidden under soil, placed in roadside bags or disguised as rocks, bricks and thermos flasks are a growing danger to people leaving areas of heavy fighting. It reported new minelaying and unexploded ordnance along key roads, where shifting front lines are pushing people onto unfamiliar routes.

Yemen has been split since the Houthi movement (Ansar Allah) seized Sanaa in 2014, and fighting between Houthi forces and government-aligned forces has continued for years, leaving mines and unexploded ordnance across many areas.
