Joseph Aoun: we are in contact with the Syrian state to organise the return of displaced people in stages

Baabda, Lebanon ·

Aoun told Susan Rab, director general of the International Centre for Migration Policy Development, at Baabda Palace that Lebanon can no longer absorb more Syrian refugees. He said contacts with the Syrian state are ongoing to organise their return in stages, and urged international organisations and aid agencies helping them in Lebanon to provide that aid inside Syria to encourage their return.

Lebanon has hosted a large population of Syrians who fled the Syrian war since 2011, and the question of their return has become a major political issue in Beirut. Lebanon has handled this file through official channels with the Syrian government.
