Head of advisory council: Iraq's economic future is measured by value added, not oil output

Iraq ·

Yusuf al-Dinanawi, head of the advisory council to Iraq's prime minister, said the government is shifting from an economy reliant on oil revenues to a productive, diversified one. This includes reforming the banking sector, strengthening the private sector and developing industry, agriculture and technology. He spoke on the final day of the Manama Dialogue 2026 forum.

Iraq's economy has long depended heavily on oil revenues, which make up most of state income, and successive governments have sought to diversify it.
