The Transitional Justice Court has begun the trial of Tarek Bounat, who was an aide to the head of the military prosecution in Damascus

Damascus, Syria ·

Syria's transitional justice criminal court in Damascus has begun hearing the trial of Tarek Bounat, who in 2013 was an aide to the head of the military prosecution in Damascus's military judiciary. Radif Mustafa, director of accountability at the National Commission for Transitional Justice, said the charges against him concern examining the bodies of people who were killed.

Syria's transitional justice process was set up after the fall of Bashar al-Assad's government in December 2024 to address abuses committed during the civil war that began in 2011.
