Govt claims shifting Rs 15bn fuel price burden to refineries to shield masses

The government said oil refineries would bear a burden of about 15 billion rupees each month, allowing petrol to be sold 15 rupees cheaper than the global market price. The statement was made at a press conference in Islamabad addressed by the petroleum minister.

Pakistan imports much of its petroleum, so domestic fuel prices are closely tied to global oil markets and the rupee's exchange rate.
