Ben Gvir calls on the Shin Bet to arrest all Arab party leaders

Israel ·

Israel's National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir called on Shin Bet chief David Zini to arrest and question all Arab party leaders without waiting for the government's legal adviser's approval. He cited suspicions of foreign interference in the Israeli elections. In a statement, Ben Gvir also demanded an immediate freeze on certifying the election results and on government formation until those suspicions are verified.

The Arab parties are the main political voice of Arab citizens of Israel, who make up about a fifth of the country's population. The Shin Bet is Israel's internal security service, and the attorney general acts as the government's chief legal adviser.
