Pakistan warns against escalation in Iran crisis, urges diplomacy

Iran ·

Pakistan's acting permanent representative told a Security Council briefing on Tuesday on Iran and nuclear non-proliferation that the situation over Iran's nuclear programme has sharply deteriorated. He urged all sides to show restraint and settle the dispute through diplomacy, amid continued hostilities and divisions within the council.

Iran's nuclear programme has been the subject of international disputes for about two decades, with the UN Security Council and the International Atomic Energy Agency involved. Pakistan, a nuclear-armed state, is a neighbour of Iran.
