Barakeh: Balfour Declaration is void, and Knesset elections replace one offender with another without ending the occupation

Ali Barakeh, head of Hamas's national relations department abroad, said the 109th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration is a reminder of what he described as a historic crime by the British government against the Palestinian people. He also said Knesset elections replace one figure with another and do not end the occupation.

The Balfour Declaration was a 1917 British letter supporting a national home for the Jewish people in Palestine, and Palestinians often cite it as a grievance on its anniversary. Hamas is a Palestinian Islamist movement active in Gaza and the West Bank.
