Turkish energy minister: Syria needs huge investments and we do not see the Kirkuk-Baniyas pipeline as a threat

Istanbul, Türkiye ·

Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said Türkiye sees no threat in the possible reopening of the Kirkuk–Baniyas oil pipeline between Iraq and Syria. He said Syria urgently needs large investment. He made the remarks at a meeting with international and foreign-language media in Istanbul.

The Kirkuk–Baniyas pipeline, built in the 1930s to carry Iraqi crude to Syria's Mediterranean coast, has been largely inactive for decades.
