Syria before the Security Council: empowering women and involving them in decision-making a pillar for building peace and the state

Syria ·

Nahla Othman, director of expatriate and refugee affairs at the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry, told the Security Council that Syrian women have borne the burdens of war and loss over the past fourteen years. She said empowering women and involving them in decision-making is a pillar for building peace and the state.

UN Security Council resolution 1325, adopted in 2000, calls for women's participation in peace and security processes. Syria has been in a conflict since 2011.
