Pakistan senate panel chief accuses tax officials of collusion in $1.4 billion tax evasion probe

Pakistan ·

A sub-committee of the Senate Standing Committee on Interior is reviewing an inquiry by the Federal Investigation Agency into alleged tax evasion of around $1.4 billion. The suspicions concern businesses that allegedly exploited tax concessions in the former tribal areas.

The former Federally Administered Tribal Areas, a border region, were merged into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in 2018, and the tax concessions that applied there have been a subject of debate.
