Iran approves building a 162-km railway line in cooperation with Russia

Bazvand, Iran ·

Iran's Supreme National Security Council approved the 162-km Rasht-Astara railway, and its route will be handed to a Russian company for engineering surveys. The line is part of the International North-South Transport Corridor.

The International North-South Transport Corridor is a multimodal freight route linking Russia, Iran and the Indian Ocean, designed to shorten shipping routes between India and Russia. The Rasht-Astara section, which links Iran to the Azerbaijan border, has long been a missing link in the route.
