Alabi outlines Syria's efforts to build free and responsible media that conveys the truth at the UN

Syria ·

Speaking before the Fourth Committee of the UN General Assembly during debate on agenda item 51 on information-related issues, Ibrahim Alabi, Syria's permanent representative to the UN, set out what he described as a shift in the country's media after decades of repression and disinformation under the former regime. He stressed the protection of press freedom as part of that effort.

Syria's government changed after Bashar al-Assad's rule ended in December 2024, and its new authorities have since been presenting their policies to international bodies.
