US says it ordered non-emergency embassy staff to leave Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia ·

The US embassy in Riyadh said it issued a security alert instructing non-emergency staff and their families to leave Saudi Arabia on 23 October because of safety risks. It linked the decision to escalating hostilities with Yemen's Houthis, which it described as Iranian-supported and accused of attacks against Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia has led a military coalition supporting Yemen's internationally recognised government since 2015, against the Houthi movement (Ansar Allah), which controls Sanaa and much of northern Yemen.
