Iraqi prime minister orders investigation into targeting of gas field in Sulaymaniyah

Sulaymaniyah, Iraq ·

Iraq's security media office, quoted by the state news agency INA, said the Kormor gas field in Sulaymaniyah province in the Kurdistan Region had been targeted. Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi ordered an investigation committee to determine the circumstances of the incident, according to a statement from the office of the commander-in-chief of the armed forces.

Kormor is a major gas field in Iraq's Kurdistan Region, feeding power stations that supply electricity across the region. Iraq's federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government have long disputed control of the region's oil and gas.
