Statement by Jordanian figures sparks controversy: attack on Ibn Taymiyya, Sayyid Qutb and school curricula

Jordan ·

Activists said the statement, titled 'For a pluralistic homeland resistant to extremism and terrorism', insulted religious figures and Islamic currents. They said it mixed different intellectual and historical issues with a crime in the village of Hammoud. Activists warned that some of its content could fuel polarisation rather than strengthen national unity.

Ibn Taymiyya and Sayyid Qutb are influential Sunni Islamic thinkers whose ideas are widely debated, including in discussions about extremism.
