Awqaf minister: we aim to train a thousand imams a month through multiple training units, with preserving the homeland and protecting against extremist thought as a top priority

Helwan, Egypt ·

Minister Osama al-Azhari opened a training course titled 'Fundamentals of Moderate Thought and Improving Language Performance' at the Al-Tawfiqi mosque in Helwan, Cairo. The ministry says the course is part of a strategy to raise imams' scientific, intellectual and linguistic level and strengthen their ability to counter extremist thought.

Egypt's Ministry of Awqaf oversees the country's mosques and the affairs of imams, and training imams in moderate religious discourse has become part of the state's efforts to counter extremism.
