Polls: strong gains for Arab parties in Israeli election

The first exit polls, taken as voters left polling stations on Tuesday, pointed to significant gains for Arab parties after heavy turnout from their voter base. The figures were drawn from sample results published by Israel's main television channels.

Arab citizens make up about a fifth of Israel's population, and Arab parties have long been a significant bloc in the 120-seat Knesset.
